More About Japanese Wallpaper & Wall Murals
Our Japanese wall murals are inspired by the Japandi and Japonaiserie design movements.
Japonaiserie was a term used by Vincent van Gogh to describe artwork heavily influenced by Japanese styles. He, in particular, found inspiration in the Japanese wood carving printing styles.
The Japandi design movement takes the traditional styles of Japanese wallpaper, and makes them more subtle. It is known as a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design, taking the detailed motifs from Japan and blending this beautifully with the neutral, minimal Scandi style. In contrast to clean, perfect Scandi styling, there is a saying in Japan: "wabi-sabi", which means that there is beauty in imperfection.
